Rolls Royce Phantom limousine stretch is finally out

January 26, 2010 11:19 am

Finally, after all this time, one coachbuilder in California (Limos by Moonlight) has finally built the first ever Rolls Royce phantom. This is a true Phantom stretch, not like those other fake Phantom conversions in the past where people took a lincoln body and converted nose and back of the car to make it look like the Rolls Royce Phantom Stretch. Those fakes look sort of like the real thing but a lot of people get fooled.  Nobody had enough money to build a real one. Even though the vehicle is built we still dont know who the real owner of this car is. Its only an assumption that the car must cost about $800/hr because regular phantom (non stretched) runs about $500/hr.  So its quiet a price difference and definitelly not something for an average Joe to rent.

This car is beautiful with blinged out Asanti Wheels that must have cost about $15,000, white paint, suicide door that the driver can close from up in front cabin, this is a top of the line stretch limousine and probably the most expensive stretch limousine ever built.

If you are in the market of renting other limos while you are in New York, check out New York Limos service.

Car washing by hand is not “Green” or safe to environment

September 6, 2009 8:36 pm

Car washing by hand is not green. When I say by hand, I mean pulling out a bucket with water and a sponge versus going to the “Pay-n-spray” car wash.

So, there are three reasons why it is best to wash your car at a commercial car wash versus the soapy bucket at home. Each reason is a “green” reason.

1.) Washing your car at “home” uses more water. There have been several studies that show that much more water is used when washing the car at home because most people leave the hose running. Commercial car washes will filter and reuse the water several times before it is disposed. Also, commercial car washes use the Bernoulli principle to provide higher pressure using less water thus conserving water even if the water isn’t filtered and reused.

2.) Car wash soaps contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. Commercial car washes must contain traps to collect the soaps and waxes used to be properly disposed of and prevent them from being washed into the ecosystem. Unless you have installed such traps at your location, the dirty soap water is often flushed into the storm gutters and transferred to the creeks, rivers, lake, ponds, rivers, etc and can damage the ecology there.

3.) The road grime you are washing off can also contain chemicals. Now, to me, this one isn’t as important since these chemicals did come of the road anyway and with a good rain will be washed away into the streams, but it is still something worth considering. Again, a commercial car wash will collect these chemicals from the road grime so that they may be disposed of properly. This will help reduce the amount that is flushed into the streams with a good rainfall.

I cannot see how a company that does not use a commercial car wash or impliment a commercial car was system at their fleet facility can consider themselves “green” if they are stating that they are “Green.” Yes, there is more to being “Green” than just car washing, but it is still a factor that is relatively simple concept.

I still believe that being called a “green company” is just a gimmick and will pass with time…like El Nino and the Ozone Hole…and that going “green” is just this decade’s way for scientists to continue working in the academic arena.

Tips on how to DEEP link your YouTube video clips

October 30, 2008 12:31 am

Saw an interesting post on a tech forum. YouTube recently rolled out a new feature that is a welcome addition to their toolbox: deep linking to a point inside a video stream. It’s a very easy implementation, as well. All you need to do is add a ‘#’ at the end of the YouTube URL and then reference the time code following the ‘#’ sign. For example:

Lincoln Rolls out 1st Canadian Built Towncars

February 28, 2008 12:09 am

Last spring, Ford moved production of its limousines to Ontario after permanently closing its underutilized assembly plant in Wixom, Michigan. Last month, approx.  21,000 of the 2008 Lincoln Towncars produced at the St. Thomas assembly plant rolled off the line and are ready to be sold exclusively to limousine services. The plant which is also producing Crown Victoria, operates on the single shift and builds about 63 cars per hour. All models are flexible fuel vehicles capable of operating on E-85 percent enthanol fuel,. The production of these vehicles is good news to the 1500 workers at the assembly plant because it means a secure future for their jobs.

Travel Budgets suffer because of lagging economy

12:03 am

Travel Managers and their companies are reportedly curtailing spending in 2008 in response to the weakening economy. In the most recent Business Travel News Corporate Travel 100 report surveying businesses nationwide, companies say they are cutting out unnecessary travel spending, while expecting rising travel costs whether on airlines, hotels, or ground transportation.

American Express Business Travel said buyers asked for budget consultation and data in late spring and early summer 2007, which is earlier than previous years. Corporations are not only feeling the strain of the weakening dollar if they travel internationally, but also the rising costs in the travel industry are really putting the strain on budgets.

Accoring to Travel Solutions, the retail and banking sectors are really tighting up their belts. Some companies are of course experiencing growth, therefore bumping up their respective travel budgets, but in doing so must account for the rise in costs and are instead limiting the number of people per trip and per diem accounts.

Taxi Fleets going Green to save gas costs in United States

February 27, 2008 11:56 pm

Beginning in October taxis coming into service in New York City are going to be required to meet a 25mpg city rating. The regulation was passed unanimously by the NYC TLC and provides that in Cotober 2009 all new taxicab vehicles must have a minimum city driving rating of 30 mpg. TLC commissioner says this regulation is first of its kind and lays the groundwork for the cleanest, greenest large city taxicab fleet in the world. NYC is working toward and all-hybrid taxi fleet by 2012. There is already couple of these cars on the road: Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Camry, etc. Once these regulations are fully phased in, vehicle owners are expected to save between $4000 and $11,000 per year in gas costs, an industsry wide savings of nearly $140 million per year.

There is speculation among key players in the black car industry that these same regulation could soon apply to them. The Houston City Council also recently approved several new rules for the city taxi industry that officials touted as a step toward reducing harmful vehicle emissions. The regulation required new cabs be one of the following: a hybrid-electric vehicle equipped with a four cylinder engine, wheelchair accesibsle or rated to get 20 mph. Houston Mayor says it is still too expensive to impose a full requirement on cab owners but it might be likely in the future.

Hopefully it will not come to the point where all the New York Limousine services will have to switch to alternative power and gas.

Chevy Tahoe Hybrid awarded Green Car of the Year

December 17, 2007 10:26 pm

The Green Car Journal recently announced that its 2008 Green Car of the Year is the Chevrolet Tahoe HYBRID. The Tahoe is the first GM vehicle to use the company’s all new two-mode hybrid system. The Tahoe Hybrid has a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 30% compare to other vehicles with a standard V-8 engine. EPA 21mph city fuel efficiency rating for the Tahoe is the same as that of the four-cylinder Toyota Camry sedan which is an eye opening achievement for an SUV. The Tahoe stood out amonth other Green Car of the Year entries because it was a full-size SUV, can carry up to 1,400 lbs, and tow up to 6000 lbs, making it more challenging to achieve meaningful fuel efficiency increases because of the vehicle’s size and weight. Chevrolet’s General Manager Ed Peper said the company is thrilled to receive this award. The other finalist included Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Mazda Tribute Hybrid, Nissan Altima Hybrid and the Saturn Aura Hybrid.

Towncar sales are falling before a body change to MKS

December 3, 2007 10:01 am

LOS ANGELES — Retail sales of the Lincoln Town Car will continue to slide in 2008 as the model becomes primarily a fleet vehicle, a Lincoln Mercury marketing executive says.

“We’ll sell fewer Town Cars next year than this year, but we’ll fill the natural retail demand,” Mike Richards, Lincoln Mercury general marketing manager, said at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Town Car comes back from a seven-month production hiatus in January. Ford Motor Co. will move production of Lincoln’s stalwart full-sized rear-wheel-drive sedan to its St. Thomas, Ontario, assembly plant. The automaker shuttered the Town Car’s former assembly plant in Wixom, Mich., in May.

Lincoln executives already have told dealers that retail sales of the Town Car will be minimal when production resumes. Lincoln is offering dealers one retail trim series.

Richards said he doesn’t have a projection for total Town Car sales in 2008 because he’s not yet sure of demand from fleet buyers.

Through October, Lincoln sold 26,057 Town Cars, down 19.2 percent from the same period in 2006. As of mid-November, just 237 Town Cars remained in dealership stocks, Richards said. Lincoln will end 2007 with about 10,000 Town Cars sold to retail customers, he said.

Even though that total will shrink in 2008, Lincoln aims to lure current Town Car owners with the 2009 MKS sedan. The front-wheel-drive MKS goes on sale next summer.

New York City Christmas Tree Light up ceremony

November 29, 2007 12:27 pm

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was lit up in New York City on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007. This is the 75th annual lighting of the tree. This 84 foot tall Norway spruce tree weighs 8 tons, stands 84 feet tall and is decorated with 30,000 energy-efficient lights. Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg and the Radio City Rockettes helped flip the switch for the tree lights shortly before 9 p.m.

This year’s 60-year-old spruce comes from the Shelton, Conn., backyard of Joseph and Judy Rivnyak. It has been covered with 5 miles of wire and 30,000 multicolored bulbs known as light emitting diodes, or LEDs. Using the new lights is expected to reduce the energy consumption of the holiday display from 3,510 to 1,297 kilowatt hours per day. That daily savings would be equal to the amount of energy used to power a 2,000-square-foot home for a month. The tree’s topper can sparkle even without any lights: The Swarovski star is adorned with 25,000 crystals. It’s almost 10 feet in diameter.

Organizers also are planning to recycle the tree by using it as lumber for Habitat For Humanity projects in New York, the Gulf Coast, India and Brazil.
